At school I got this like bag of cinnimon pita chips and on the price it said 1.25 so I put in two dollars but its actually was only 85 cents soooo it gave me a dollar back and some change, I didn’t think vending machines gave you dollars back…?

The new dollar bill acceptors can recycle bills in a number of ways. It’s the future of vending machines since eventually they’ll need to be able to accept 10′s and 20′s and be able to give correct change.
Look for credit/debit card accepting machines in the very near future. (They have quite a few working models in field testing at the moment)

the only time the machine will give you the dollar back is when you have over paid with too many bills.. like in your case. they simply gave you your same dollar back.
now had you put in a five. and it cost 85 cents, you would have gotten $4.15 in quaters and nickles.
they dont want to give dollars back because there may be an error in the machines calculations.

Most vending machines will spit back out dollars you put in if they are not needed. Most of them will not do it if for instance if you put a 20 dollar bill in it, it will just spit it back out and not give you change back.

It held your last dollar in the bill validator and didn’t stack it. So all it done was kick your dollar back. If it stacks your bill in the validator then it pays you back in change.
