You should probably start it from scratch.
If you could get yourself some know-how on the mechanism of vending machines, and if you get yourself a trip to Home-Depot and you have some basic tools at home, I would recommend you best to just create 5 or 6 vending machines from scratch, sign up your business and go out there to retailers and tell them to give you a shot for a cut of the deal.
Really. I REALLY REALLY REALLY believe that you should just make them from scratch if that’s what you want to do.
Franchisers will only LIMIT your area, be the MIDDLE MAN from what you are going to make (AFTER you pay your merchants), and sell you a basic idea for a lot of cash that you could be using to be YOUR OWN boss instead.
Get the know-how, do a little weekend wood- or metal-work, and register the business under your own name.
An added benefit: cut the dumb, stereotypical vending machines out. Create one that looks neat. The neater it is, the more attention it will get, and that more money you’re likely to get.
Do you know all those Gorillas or Supermans or other full-size sculptures that some stores put right at their store front?
Do one of those and stick your vending mechanism in the stomach of the sculpture.
The kids will flock to it. It will be visible. And more money will pour in.
And don’t just sell gum. Try something different – Beef jerky, bananas, something new each day – even.

Go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.
