    the slot for coins have retractible sides so when you insert a coin the walls get pushed out and the machine registers the size of it

    because there is a weight and measuring thing in there that can tell if it is fake or real, and some of the new ones scan the coin.

    I think they check the paper money with some kind of scanner that checks the patterns and stuff on the bill
